Learn To Draw


Note: Development of this course is still in progress. Additional lessons will be posted weekly.

Anybody can learn to draw. Some people will have talent, and others will have more well-developed motor skills, but in six to eight months the average person can learn to draw reasonably well.

The following is a simple course which will get you to that point where you will no longer feel intimidated to take an art class! This course is also designed to build an initial portfolio, so those of you who need to have that documentation will have it completed at the end of the course.

Materials:

  • Two sketch pads of 70 to 90 weight paper. 9x12" and 11x14"
  • A Kneaded Erasure and a Gum Erasure
  • Graphite pencils: 2H, HB, 2B, 4B
  • A black felt-tip pen (relatively fine point, not a Sharpie)

Lesson 1 & 2      Building Motor Skills

Lesson 3 & 4      Beginning Contour Drawing

Lesson 5 & 6      Blocking in Shapes, Refining Contour Drawing

Lesson 7 & 8      Line Sensitivity

Lesson 9 & 10    Shading with Cross-Hatching

Lesson 11 & 12  Drawing faces; individual features and proportion/ placement

Lesson 13           Drawing faces; putting it together

Lesson 14           Composition: Depth of Field and level of detail

Lesson 15           Composition: Shapes arrangement
