Team Credits: Starship Troopers

A non-commercial production 2004
(not to be confused with the releases of the 'Starship Troopers' video games by Blue Tongue Software 2001; and Empire Interactive and Strangelite Studios 2005)

As a group without a programmer. we chose to build the game utilizing the Doom3 engine and finished the project before the D3 SDK was released. Technically this game is a mod, but due to the shoddy reputation of mods in general, we felt it was necessary to itemize the work and stress that we used no defaults, no pre-made components, and no existing art assets.

Our team started from scratch; creating all new maps, models, players, custom rigs, animations, all textures, the lighting, particles, queue decals, physics, rag dolls, sound fx,  cinematics, and we wrote all our own scripts for the AI and the above.

Timeline: 2004
We made this mod in six weeks; spread out over several months.

June 21         Tamas just got out of school and after visiting Valve we were talking about doing a Half-Life mod, but heard that Doom3 would be released in time for QuakeCon. We already has our tickets for Texas, so we changed our minds and drew up a fast plan.

July 5            Started project.
July 31          Basic art assets and level design completed
Aug 2           Back-ups and file organization
Aug 3           Purchased Doom3 !! played all night.
Aug 3-10      Ported materials, test. Unsuccessful!. Disaster.
Alternative: Record .avi’s for a video trailer
                            Format GUI’s. Unsuccessful!
Alternative: Create mock graphics, finish the video
Up all night before Quakecon editing the video trailer.
Aug 11-14     Quakecon. Awesome. Gave away some video CD's
Aug 15-21     Prep portfolio files for all the artists who helped us.
Aug 23- Sep 19 Went to Finland, came back and Tamas had to go back
to High School the next day.
Nov 25-28     Complete the project  over Thanksgiving weekend?
                      Unsuccessful! Melted Tamas' Video Card.
Dec 7           We get the e-mail from Sony that says 'Please don't release your MOD".
Depressed, we decide to finish it anyway, but not release it so we won't
                     get our pants sued off.
Dec 25-31st   We finally finish the MOD over Christmas break!
Jan 1, 2005    Tamas gets his college applications done.
Jan 2-4          We are sick of playing the mod, but we have some friends over and watch
                      Them get killed by Arachnids.
Jan 5-15        Recorded and edit the final video trailer from finished playable..
